The Journey Begins...

A lot has been written about Public Relations. There are many websites and blogs which endlessly write about the goodness of this profession and there are sites which warn you against its unecessary charms. My blog modestly attempts to bring forth the theories of this profession which makes this profesion the way it is.

Infact
what Culbertson, Jeffers, Stone, and Terrell (1993) said has encouraged me to begin writing this blog on the importance of theories in the PR profession. They said that it is because marketing experts depend on theoretical concepts, they have seen much success in being able to target market segments and in positioning products or organizations. Many PR practioners on the other hand though appreciate theory for academic reasons but see little use for it outside the classroom. But the authors sound hopeful when they conclude that seeing the success of marketing people, the PR fraternity will change their minds and adopt theoretical approaches.

I firmly believe in the fact, that to know something in its present you must know its past.History plays a very important role in defining its origin and the theories develop and shape it.

This blog will dig deeper into this profession and construct it bit by bit to see how it is in India and around the world.

Hope you will enjoy this enthralling journey with me and revel in it the way i do...

  1. Hello,

I agree that theorizing has helped marketeers to position/promote their products, but only partly. However, Public Relations has always got a rather step-sisterly treatment. Many of the so called Public Relations people I know think of it as an art of handing out well written(?) press releases. I will look forward to more posts from you on this blog.

  3. yes Mam i am completly agree with this article. Theories are always help to improve !deas and consept of any Subject or area. Every theory gives defferent interpretations and different aspect of that subject when you read it every other time. The theory is the science and implication of that theory on field or practically that is art. As I think PR is the practice(art) which is based on theory(Science) and we can't understand PR complitely without knowing it's theory and it's history. Thanks it'll very nice to learn PR from you with the help of your blog.......

  4. Good insight. Theories are the foundation of any discipline, if implemented well, can uphold a beautiful structure. However, I believe theories are not static in nature. They evolve. Evolve with experiment and practice. The theory of ‘theory’ is that, it is an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of situation; an analytic structure designed to explain a set of observations. Do share some of the interesting theories in PR… would surely like to know the views /observations of the learned.

  6. Visualising with a theory will refine the process. Many times we may not realise the theory we adapt. Once we grasp it, we can predict the future perspectives too.
